Nwoya man killed after breaking fight between brother, wife

Police in Nwoya are holding a 32-year-old man on allegations of killing his elder brother following a family brawl.
Police said on Monday that Denis Ojok, 34 was killed on Sunday night after he tried to break a fight between his younger brother, Richard Okello and wife.

The Sunday night incident is reported to have happened when the duo had just returned from a drinking joint. Upon reaching home in Ywaya village, Anaka Sub County in Nwoya District, a fight broke out between Okello and his wife following a disagreement.

However, Ojok’s intervention infuriated Okello who later followed him up to his house, broke his door and hit him on the head with a hoe before he died instantly, according to a police statement recorded from their younger brother, Richard Obalim.
“The two have never quarrelled or had issues between themselves. I think it was the influence of alcohol,” Mr Obalim added.
Nwoya District police commander Philbert Waibi confirmed the report adding that Okello is detained at Nwoya central police station as investigations continue.

Ojok’s body was taken to Anaka hospital for post-mortem.
Mr Geoffrey Opobo, the area local council three chairperson said this was the third similar incident in his area since January this year. He blamed the incidents on high alcohol consumption by some residents.
