Katakwi Woman MP lobbys for mechanized Agriculture

In a bid to improve the agriculture sector in the district, the Katakwi district Woman representative in the Parliament of Uganda, Honorable Violet Akurut has lobbied for 3 tractors for her women farmers.

The tractors that were given by the Government of Uganda through NAADS, are aimed at lifting the level of food security in the communities.


Mr Seraphin Alia, the chief administrative officer Katakwi said, his office received ten applicants but approved the three which include, Grassroot Women Development Initiative- located in Katakwi town which was given a tractor (UBE070R), Agego Organic Farmers Group which was given tractor (UBF715P) and Olilim Agro-Foresters Environmentalists (UBF962M).

The Resident District Commissioner for Katakwi, Michael Bwalatum reminded the beneficiaries to prioritize records and book keeping which will help in budgeting processes.


Speaking during the handover ceremony of the tractors yesterday at the Works building in Katakwi, the Woman MP (Violet Akurut) revealed thay the lobbying process was started last year when she presented to the president on how vulnerable Katakwi Women are in terms of food production.
